Chemballi Meen Porichathu/Kerala Red Snapper Fish Fry



Chemballi meen varuthathu/Kerala style red snapper fish fry recipe is a master piece of my cooking world. I am sure you will be a great fan of this traditional fish fry recipe of god's own country - Kerala when you taste this. The soft and tasty white flush of the red snapper fish become delicious when it fried. This spicy river fried fish dish makes your lunch tastier with hot steamed rice with any other fish curry. You can also try another red snapper fish recipes like fish curry with coconut paste or milk (it can also make without coconut). 

Make Red Snapper Fish Fry in Kerala Style:


Ingredients:

Fish pieces - 6 nos
Chilly powder - 1 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Coconut oil - 5 tbsp

Method of Preparation:

Clean the fishes. Cut into pieces of proper size. Mix them with chilly powder paste and salt. Place them for 10 to 15 minutes to absorb the masala into the fish pieces. Fry the cut fishes in the hot coconut oil. Turn them when they become brown in colour. After frying both sides take out the pieces from the oil. Take care to not break up the fish pieces while frying serve the hot fried fishes for lunch.

Kerala Style Fish Curry with Coconut Paste

Fish curry recipes can make in different styles. Especially Kerala people used to prepare fish curries in various styles and tastes. In previous post I told you about making mango fish curry. But now I am telling about a simple fish curry with coconut paste which is a homely and traditional fish recipe among Keralites. In this, I used mackerel or Ayala fish for making this curry. The ground paste of coconut makes this dish more tasty and nutritious.

The Mackerel fish is available in market. It is very delicious and nutritious. The nutrient content of coconut and other contents of this curry make your meal more healthier. You can prepare this easy fish curry dish for rice, chapathy or puttu.

Coconut Fish Curry

Ingredients for Ayala Fish curry with Grated Coconut Paste:

Preparation Method of Fish Curry with Coconut Paste:

  • Clean and wash the fish pieces well
  • Grate 1 coconut and grind it into smooth paste with chilly, coriander and turmeric powders. Keep it aside.
  • Chop the chilies.
  • Make the Ginger Garlic paste.
  • Put all the above ingredients into a pan.
  • Pour water into it. 
  • Add some salt.
  • Allow the mixture to boil well.
  • After it pour the turmeric juice. Again boil well till it reaches into proper consistency of fish curry. 
  • Keep the fish curry aside and place another pan on the stove. Pour the coconut oil into it. Heat it well.
  • Put the chopped onion into it. Fry into golden brown.
  • Pour this into the hot fish curry gravy.
  • Add the curry leaves into it. 
  • Serve fish curry with coconut paste for your dears.

Sour Mango Fish Curry (Puli Manga Ayala Curry) Recipe for Rice

Fish curry with mango is my favorite dish. If it is special green sour mango, the fish curry will be the tastiest in the food world. Mango with special sourness and ayala (mackerel) is the best combination for this type of fish curry. Mango fish curry is a Keralite special. I am here saying about the simple and delicious Thrissur style Sour and raw mango fish/ayala kootan for your lunch. The sour mango/puli manga combination with the fish is a favorite recipe for Malayalee. The preparation of fish curry with mango is so easy. Making time of this curry also low. So try it out for your spicy lunch time.
Make Mango Fish Curry


Ingredients for Mango Fish Curry:


  • Fish Pieces ( Mackerel/ Ayala) - 5-6 nos
  • Raw and sour mango Pieces - 1 small cup
  • Coconut (grated)- 1 cup
  • Green Chilly - 3 nos
  • Ginger (Chopped)- 1 spoon
  • Curry leaves - 1 string
  • Chili Powder- 1 table spoon
  • Coriander Powder- 1/2 tea spoon
  • Turmeric Powder- 1/2 tea spoon
  • Salt- to taste
  • Coconut oil- 2 table spoon
  • Small Onion (chopped)- 5 nos
  • Water

Method of Mango Fish Curry Preparation:

  • Wash and clean fish
  • Cut the fish into pieces
  • Grind the grated coconut after adding chilly, turmeric and coriander powders into it.
  • Take a pan and put the fishes, ground mixture, cut mango pieces for sourness, salt, chopped ginger, green chilly pieces and curry leaves into it. 
  • Pour sufficient water into the contents of fish curry.
  • On the stove and allow the fish curry mixture to boil.
  • Continue the boiling till the fish pieces become cooked. 
  • Off the stove when the curry come into right consistency. 
  • Place another pan on fire.
  • Pour coconut oil and heat it.
  • Put the chopped onion and fry it.
  • Put the mixture into the hot mango fish curry.

According to nutritionist, marine fishes are more good and healthy. They provide sufficient health factors for our body. Especially sardine, mackerel, shark etc... Mixed fishes of smallest marine fishes are also important. They are full of various amino acids and vitamins. Sardine, mackerel and shark have A and D vitamins and high amount of protein. 

They also contain various metals which are important for the building of bones and blood. They are also digestible even both for children and old age people. They also develop muscular efficiency. Sardine and mackerel are good for heart patients and blood pressure patients. They are helpful for brain development and cell reproduction. Marine fish recipes will contain good amount of iodine. So they are best for thyroid patients.

Fish liver oil is most precious byproduct from fishes. It is better for the health of eyes. Fatty acids in fish liver oil help for developing eye sight. In human with the increasing age, eyesight would become decrease. It is called 'Age related muscular disorder (AMD)'. If you having the fish liver oil, the happening of AMD will delay. Fish liver oil consumption is better for girls and women.

Fish recipes are helpful for weight loss. If you make good and tasty recipes without fat, you can lose your extra weight. Fish is also helpful for lean people. If you make the fish into best curries by using fat or cheese, you can get sufficient fat to your body.

Precautions Against Fish Food:


As I told you, marine fishes are good foods for us. But now, we must remember about sea pollution. Various types of metal pollutants and others go to the sea water. A percentage of them will be in these fish resource. So avoid the big sized (large) and long lived fishes because they will have more pollutants like mercury and lead in their body. So prefer small sea fishes for your food which have small life span.

Other important thing is that 'more is not good'. The fish is very good food. But if we eat it in more amount, it will harm our body. So develop a habit of including fish recipes 2 times per week.
