Ginger/Zingiber Officinale



gingerKerala is popular for ginger/Inji. Scientific name of it is Zingiber officinale.

Dried ginger is known in Malayalam as 'chukku'. Both are very precious in medical/health contest. Dried ginger coffee/ chukku kappi is better for cold.

'Cochin genus' is a better variety of ginger which cultivate in god's own country.

Ginger is in the 'Zingiberaceae' family.

Root portion of the ginger plant is used in our dishes.

Ginger was originated in China, and then it spread into India, South Africa, South East Asia and Karibia.

The name Ginger derived from the word 'Zinji'.

Ginger has many advantages. They are briefly described below:

It is useful for better digestion.

Ginger helps you to overcome gas problems.

It is used in treatment for headache, back pain, vomiting, stomach pain...

It is used in both Unani and Ayurveda.

Ginger - curd mix (Kerala style 'Injithairu') is a main sadya recipe among Keralites. It is also called 'Ayiramkari'.

It is a main ingredient for rasam recipe, potato stew, potato masala, egg curry, fish curry and chicken recipes.

From ginger, we can separate more than 400 chemicals.

Spicy taste of it is cause by the chemical zingerorie.

The yellowish color of ginger is due to the presence of gingerol. 

So ginger has that much importance know them and include it in your dishes.
